Types of Proxies
Proxies are types of servers that connect the internet and the client computer. When these clients send information to the internet, the request passes through the proxies before they are transmitted to the internet. The reverse happens when the internet is responding to request sent by the client. Currently, there are different types of proxies, some of which include:
Web Proxies: these deal with the traffic that is sent over the World Wide Web, and it is usually used by countries, corporations and schools as a way to control the information that can be accessed by the users.
Anonymous proxies- these function by removing all information that may identify the clients. When the users send the request to the internet, the proxies will remove the identifying information before sending the request to the internet, making the client anonymous.
Caching Proxy: this server will send the clients the request they need without sending it to the target website. It uses the cache- information obtained from requests previously sent by the clients. It is recommended for those who want to cut down on time spent sending requests.
Forced Proxy: this server will receive all information sent by the clients to the internet, without the knowledge of the users.
Open Proxy: this is a proxy that will allow people to connect and use it. The only problem is that many people may end up misusing it, especially spammers. This factor has made a lot of websites to disallow traffic from such proxies in order to avoid spammers.
There are also other categories of proxies such as PHP, HTTP, Gateway, CGI proxies as well as content filters. With these facts in mind, it is easier for individuals to know what proxies are, and which ones will be the best for their needs and situations.
